Mission Statement
Our mission at JG Johnson elementary school is to provide a safe, nurturing environment where positive learning experiences result in academic success for all!
 
Highlights
J.G. Johnson Staff created a professional development focus for school-wide learning based on grade level, teacher, and studentneeds. As a staff, we centered our attention on writing instruction.
  • Decisions, including writing and implementing of our School Improvement Plan, involve input from staff and involved parents.
  • JG Johnson’s daily attendance rate for the 2009-2010 school year was 94%, 1% higher thanNCSD's daily attendance rate.
  • Cross-age tutoring program, Alpha Pals, allows 4th and 5th graders to tutor at-risk K and 1st grade students.
  • 4th and 5th graders participate in Writer’s Club to help improve theircraft as writer's and author's.
  • Teachers from all grade levels participated in 3 writing scoring sessions to provide meaningful feedback to students.
  • A Reading Intervention Specialist pulls Tier 2 and 3 students for small group instruction.
  • Cross-curriculum student writing samplesare displayed for public viewing based on staff developed grade level rubrics.
  • The Principal’s Spotlight bulletin boardawards students' displaying positive character traits through the school day.
  • Teachers provide after-school tutoring for students in need of additional academic support.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
15th grade students will increase achievement in writing as measured by the 2011 State Writing Proficiency exam.

Objective(s):
5th grade students scoring below a 3 on all four traits will decrease from 19% to 14%. (5%)5th grade students scoring a 3 or higher on four traits will increase from 53% to 58%. (5%)

Goal 2
Improve student achievement in math for all students.

Objective(s):
The NWEA scores for math will increase from 52% to 57%. (5%)Non-proficient CRT students will decrease from 42.51% to 32.51%. (10%)
