Highlights
FIS converted from a 6-8 middle school to a 5-6 upper elementary during the 2011 school year. This transformation occurred over Christmas break with the assistance of 50 Fallon Naval Officers.
  • FIS is adopting the following: Balanced Math, The Cafe, Write From the Beginning and the Nevada Common Core Standards.
  • Boys and Girls Club is located on FIS campus and provides an after school program plus a summer program.
  • 100% of FIS students receive technology instruction and computer enrichment or remediation to enhance student learning.
  • Allstudents receive music, PE,andlibrary weekly to enrich student interests and talentsand promote student wellness.
  • Students participate in Cross Country, Track, Wrestling, Intramural Basketball,Student Leadership, Guitar and Choir Clubs.
  • The Fernley Rotary Club and FIS have partnered to provide the weekend backpack food program for students in need.
  • LCSD purchased an additional $28,000to purchasechildren's literature to assist with Daily 5 and Cafe implementation.
  • FIS utilized Children's Cabinet, Teen Truth, School Counselor and Adminto educate students on bullying and internet safety.
  • Community groups: Scouts, 4H, Weight Watchers, Special Olympics and various youth sports programsutilize FIS facilities.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
FIS students will increase achievement in writing, focus on conventions,sufficient to meet the proficiency targets.

Objective(s):
Student performance on the January 2011 5th grade writing assessment will increase to 67% proficient school wide. Special Education and LEP subgroups will increase proficiency by 20% as measured by the 5th grade writing proficiency assessment.

Goal 2
FIS will increase achievement in math sufficient to meet proficiency targets as measured by the spring 2011 CRT’s.

Objective(s):
FIS student performance in math will increase 5-10% based on 2009-10 levels for all students including IEP and LEP students performing at or above target in mathematics. IEP and LEP students will increase overall proficiency by 15- 25% based on previous performance to close the achievement gap.

Goal 3
All students will increase achievement in reading sufficient to meet proficiency as measured by the spring 2011 CRT’s.

Objective(s):
Student performance will increase 5-10% in reading proficiency. IEP and LEP will increase proficiency by 15% to close achievement gap. Comprehend, Interpret, & Evaluate Literature and Informational Text emphasis will be placed on increasing MAP scores sufficient to meet grade growth targets.
