Mission Statement
The staff of Yerington Elementary School believes the primary purpose of our school is student learning. We believe that all students can learn and achieve basic grade level skills, regardless of their previous academic performance, family background, disability, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and/or gender. The staff, working as a team, in partnership with families and the community, will provide students fundamental information and the skills necessary to achieve academic success in a safe, caring environment. We accept the responsibility to use effective strategies so all students can become successful in our school and productive citizens in our society.
 
Highlights
Yerinton Elementary School had an outstanding year focusing on lieteracy and math achievement for all students. We are pleased that every child made progress and have several highlights.
  • Y.E.S. continued to offer full day Kindergarten to all Kindergarten students through state funding.
  • Every child's progress was reviewed quarterly at Student Achievement Conferences.
  • Our Instructional Consultation Team is in it's second year of providing collaborative interventions for teachers.
  • There has been a marked increase in our PTO attendance. PTO organized a literacy night and monthly movie nights.
  • Teachers were provided with common preparation time to plan collaboratively for reading, writing and math.
  • DRA and MAP assessments continue to be used to track progress and design lessons in math, reading and language arts.
  • The YES Literacy Resource Center expanded and currently houses 37,000+ leveled book sets and teaching materials.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Students will increase achievement in math, especially for the IEP, LEP, FRL and Native American sub-populations

Objective(s):
Student performance in math for subgroups at or above targets will increase 5-10% based on 2009-10 levels.Subgroups performing below targets will demonstrate 20-25% based on '09-10 levels.Emphasis will be placed on increasing DOK levels and MAP scores sufficient to meet grade appropriate targets.

Goal 2
All students will increase achievement in reading with an emphasis on analyzing literary text.

Objective(s):
Student performance in reading for subgroups at or above targets will increase 5-10% based on '09-10 levels.Subgroups performing below targets will demonstrate 20-25% on '09-10 levels.Emphasis will be placed on increasing DOK levels and MAP scores in literary text analysis to meet growth targets.

Goal 3
Students will increase achievement in writing sufficient to increase performance as measured by grade level rubrics.

Objective(s):
Student performance in writing will increase sufficiently to meet the requirements on ideas, organization, voice and conventions as demonstrated by a passing score determined by a rubric that mirrors the fifth grade Nevada writing proficiency.
