Mission Statement
Students who are placed in Desert Willow Treatment Center and participate in the Desert Willow/Miley West Educational Program will benefit from their education academically and socially by receiving direct instruction and social skills training.
 
Highlights
The Educational program at Desert Willow is designed to meet the educational and emotional needs of students while they are placed in a residential psychiatric facility.
  • During the month of February, students presented famous Black Americans who had an impact on science and education.
  • The entire school presented "Holidays Around the World," focusing on Asia, Egypt, Mexico, and North America.
  • During the month of January, the Math Committee held a school-wide event, "The Estimating Project." All participated.
  • Reading Week was incorporated to include all levels of education in the school, focusing on the birthday of Dr. Seuss.
  • Vocational training was incorporated into daily living skills, focusing on cooking, budgeting, and organizational skills.
  • Students were recognized each month for their academic growth and social skills achievement at a monthly awards ceremony.
  • Inspirational quotes were the school theme. This was incorporated into the writing lessons in all academic grade levels.
  • The highlight of the Literature class was the interpretation of Marriage Poems, focusing on imagery, flow, and execution.
  • Staff raised $680.00 for "Pennies For Patience." This event included state hospital staff and CCSD staff.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Students will increase their mathematical skills as measured by state and district assessments.

Objective(s):
By June of 2011, students will increase their mathematical skills in computation and problem solving as measured by state mandated assessments.

Goal 2
Students will increase their written expression skills as measured by mandated writing assessments.

Objective(s):
By June 2011, students will increase written communication skills, focusing on written expression and sentence structure as measured by state mandated assessments.

Goal 3
Students will increase social skills within the milieu.

Objective(s):
Students will increase social skills, focusing on communication, cooperation, and respect measured by daily points and unit intervention.
