Mission Statement
The mission of Palo Verde High School is to prepare students to realize their academic, creative, emotional, physical, social, and career potentials as contributing members of society in a community of mutual respect.
 
Highlights
Palo Verde High School is committed to challenging its students in the fields of academics, athletics, and extra-curricular activities to provide them with a well-rounded high school experience.
  • PVHS had 7 National Merit semi-finalists and 6 finalists.
  • PVHS juniors increased their first attempt pass rate on the writing proficiency exam from 92% to 93.3%.
  • The PVHS Forensics team won the Forensics State Championship.
  • PVHS seniors were awarded over $15 million in scholarship money.
  • PVHS sophomores increased their first attempt pass rate on the math proficiency exam from 63.2% to 69.6%.
  • 88.4% of PVHS sophomores passed the reading proficiency exam on the first attempt.
  • PVHS increased its graduation rate by 2.3 points to 76.7%, exceeding the district average of 65.1%.
  • The PVHS Science Bowl team placed second in the Nevada Regional Science Bowl competition.
  • PVHS offered 14 different AP courses and 20 different honors courses with a total of 132 honors/AP sections available.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
PVHS will increase achievement in math & ELA through the use of effective instructional strategies.

Objective(s):
Palo Verde High School will increase the number of math and English language arts (ELA) teachers observed using the components of an effective lesson. In the 2010-2011 school year, PVHS will show a 10% growth from 63.2% to 69.5% in math; in ELA, the growth will be from 62.8% to 69.1%.

Goal 2
PVHS will increase student engagement by implementing strategies & improving programs to positively impact achievement.

Objective(s):
Palo Verde High School will increase the use of differentiated instruction in the classroom as measured by classroom observations and lesson plans. PVHS will show a growth of 90% in the 2010-2011 school year in math from 15.8% to 30%, and in ELA from 10% to 19%.

Goal 3
PVHS will increase student engagement by implementing strategies & improving programs to positively impact achievement.

Objective(s):
Palo Verde High School will increase student engagement in the classroom as measured by classroom observations and lesson plans. PVHS will show an increase in the 2010-2011 school year in math from 21.1% to 41.0% and in ELA from 14.3% to 27.0%.
