Mission Statement
Bonanza High School's mission is to empower its students to develop academically, physically, and socially as a foundation for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship.
 
Highlights
The school made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the 2009-10 school year with a 100% participation rate on the NHSPE.
  • Nevada's first Fire Science Academy opened. This is a program where students train for careers in the fire service industry.
  • A Virtual High School lab was established where students take online classes during the school day.
  • GEAR-UP provided on-site credit retrieval classes in math, English, and social studies for students in grades 9-12.
  • Scholarship and college nights were held for parents to provide scholarship and financial aid information.
  • A dual enrollment program permitted students to earn 6 college credits from the College of Southern Nevada (CSN).
  • The school's average daily attendance (ADA) improved to 92.4% during the 2009-10 school year.
  • Six students received athletic college scholarships during the 2009-10 school year.
  • The class of 2010 earned over 3 million dollars in college scholarships.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Increase student achievement in math & ELA through the implementation of research-based instructional strategies (RBIS).

Objective(s):
Bonanza High School will increase the number of teachers observed using researched-based instructional methods. Teachers will incorporate data analysis to develop lesson plans that include research-based instructional strategies to facilitate differentiated instruction.

Goal 2
Increase achievement in math & ELA through data analysis, data driven lesson planning, and use of RBIS.

Objective(s):
Teachers will collaborate to develop and implement lesson plans and common assessments that incorporate questions which mirror standardized tests, specifically DOK levels. Practice/reviews will also be developed to mirror the common assessments.
