Mission Statement
The Victoria Fertitta Middle School is dedicated to preparing students for life by challenging them to be effective communicators, critical thinkers, and responsible learners.
 
Highlights
The pass rate for the Algebra 1 Honors common midterm assessment rose from 71% to 96% in one year.
  • The overall library book circulation for all grades rose 38% since 2009.
  • Eighth Grade Writing Proficiency Scores revealed a 10% increase in the number of proficient writers in just one year.
  • The average lexile growth of students enrolled in the Read 180/System 44 intervention classes was 188 points in one year.
  • Fifty students qualified for the annual "Sparky Hall of Fame" award for speed and endurance in Physical Education.
  • The Band, Choir, and Orchestra programs were awarded 61 superior ratings in the 2010-2011 CCSD individual festivals.
  • Bronze, Silver, and Gold Honor Cards were awarded quarterly to students who displayed academic achievement.
  • Through Josh Steven's Foundation's "Be Kind" initiative, students were systematically awarded for acts of kindness.
  • We were chosen as a middle school pilot for the internationally recognized "Best Buddies" program for special needs students.
  • We were selected to represent CCSD at the annual City of Las Vegas Arbor Day celebration at All American Park.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Student achievement will increase in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics.

Objective(s):
Between October 2010 and March 2011, student performance in the ELA and math content areas will increase in all subgroups. Specific growth will be demonstrated in the IEP subgroups with a reduction of non-proficient students from 65.1% to 55.1% (ELA) and 66.1% to 56.1% (math).

Goal 2
Student achievement will increase in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics.

Objective(s):
Between October 2010 and March 2011, student performance in the ELA & math content areas will increase in all subgroups. Specific growth will be demonstrated in the Hispanic subgroup with a minimum increase in proficiency of 62.8% to 63.8% (ELA) and 60.9% to 61.9% (math).
