Silvestri Junior High School lays the foundation for life-long learning. Students, staff, and the community strive to make the introductory experience to secondary education positive and fulfilling.- Weekly Structured Teacher Planning Time was utilized to discuss student achievement data and develop common assessments.
- A daily advisory period was incorporated into the schedule to provide students with additional academic support and guidance.
- Homework Club was offered after school to all students with the outcome of improved academic performance.
- AIMSweb and RTI were piloted in 6th grade which resulted in targeted interventions for students performing below grade level.
- S.A.V.E. Students Against Violence Everywhere, an anti-bullying/violence program, promoted peaceful resolutions to conflict.
- Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) allowed for adult male role models to volunteer on campus.
- Three year CRT data revealed that student achievement in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ELA and math increased in every subgroup.
- Parents, students, and teachers attended quarterly breakfasts honoring those who demonstrated significant improvement.
- A large selection of performing arts classes were offered in which students consistently earned superior ratings.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 All students, in all subgroups, will increase their proficiency in ELA and math as measured by the spring 2011 CRT.
Objective(s): Student proficiency in math/ELA for the subgroups Hispanic/Latino, Black/African American, IEP, LEP, and FRL will meet the 10-11 CRT cut score of 65.9%/63.8% in order to close the achievement gap. At a minimum, all subgroups will show a 10% reduction in the number of non-proficient students.
Goal 2 Eighth graders in all subgroups will increase their proficiency in writing as measured by the 2011 CRT.
Objective(s): To increase student proficiency in writing for the subgroups Hispanic, Black, White, IEP, LEP, and FRL by 10% (38% for IEP subgroup) as measured by the spring 2011 administration of the CRT. At a minimum, all subgroups will show a 10% reduction in the number of non-proficient students.
Goal 3 Eighth graders in all subgroups will increase their proficiency in writing as measured by the 2011 CRT.
Objective(s): School level student proficiency in writing, as based on the 2011 administration of the 8th grade Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam, will increase from 61.8% - 71.8%.
