Mission Statement
Ernest A. Becker Middle School's mission statement is to foster a challenging learning environment that empowers students to reach their academic potential.
 
Highlights
Becker Middle School is very proud of our students' and teachers' achievements, both inside and outside of the classroom. They continue to carry on Becker Middle School's tradition of excellence.
  • 100 students in grades 6 - 8 were enrolled in an Honors Academy program, which included an extra hour of challenging courses.
  • The Honor Card program recognized nearly 800 students each quarter for outstanding achievement and improvement.
  • Over 65% of students participated in award-winning fine arts programs, including band, choir, orchestra, guitar, and dance.
  • The PowerUp, Read 180, and System 44 programs were utilized for reading intervention to assist students below grade level.
  • The Compass Learning program and additional math courses were utilized for intervention to assist students below grade level.
  • A learning strategist provided continued professional development for teachers to utilize research-based strategies.
  • Departments held weekly Structured Teacher Planning Time (STPT) meetings to develop lessons based on state standards.
  • EBTV, a program that was filmed, performed, and edited by students, provided the student body with morning announcements.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Increase achievement on the 2011 CRT, specifically in Read to Comprehend, Interpret, and Evaluate Informational Text

Objective(s):
Students will increase achievement by 3% in each grade level, as measured by the spring 2011 CRT. Specific emphasis will be placed on differentiating instruction to target IEP and LEP populations.

Goal 2
Increase achievement in math on the 2011 CRT. Specific improvement will focus on DOK level 2 and constructed responses.

Objective(s):
Students will increase achievement by 3% in each grade level, as measured by the spring 2011 CRT. Specific emphasis will be placed on differentiating instruction to target DOK level 2 and 3 questions, as well as constructed responses.
