Our purpose is to provide an academic, as well as a safe environment for all students, in order for them to become well-rounded, independent individuals. Our staff strives to accelerate learning for all students, while holding high expectations for student achievement. |

Swainston is a school where students are challenged to learn, achieve and become independent learners, and where work is appreciated and success is celebrated. We are proud of our accomplishments.- CRT Power Hour and Concentrated Skills Days provided students additional assistance in English, reading and math instruction.
- Students were recognized for straight A's,A/B Honor Roll, Outstanding Citizenship and completing 100% of their assignments.
- Professional development focused on diversity, student engagement, HQSI, Components of Effective Lessons, DOK and technology.
- Explorations classes included Spanish, Korean, study skills and award-winning fine arts and performing arts programs.
- An extensive menu of extracurricular activities was offered to enrich school experiences in academics & athletics.
- Tutoring, T-Bird Time, Compass Learning, Fast ForWord, Read 180, mentoring and enrichment academies were offered.
- Swainston staff visited feeder schools and feeder school students visited Swainston to obtain a middle school experience.
- Interactive Notebooks were implemented as a means of keeping students organized and accountable for their own learning.
- Special Ed students were included in classes where possible with instructional teacher support to meet IEP requirements.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Increase the effectiveness of Tier 1 instruction through daily implementation of the Components of an Effective Lesson.
Objective(s): Objective 1: By the end of the 2010-2011 school year, AYP data will demonstrate at least a 10% reduction in the percent of non-proficient students in ELA and mathematics. Objective 2: Increase the use of DOK Level 2 and 3 tasks from 5% to 50% during FOSL walk-through and ASC1 Curriculum Review Data.
Goal 2 Increase student engagement & monitor the effectiveness of instruction for students in IEP & African-American subgroups.
Objective(s): Objective 1: By the end of the school year, AYP data will demonstrate at least a 10% reduction in the percent of non-proficient students in ELA and mathematics in the IEP and African American subgroups. Objective 2: Increase ADA for African-American(92.37%) and IEP(91.18%) subgroups to 93.5%.
