Brown Junior High School empowered students to achieve academically and grow as individuals prepared for high school and beyond.- Brown Junior High School achieved a 22% gain in English language arts CRT scores.
- The NV DOE recognized Brown JHS as demonstrating successful, innovative instructional practice for the 21st century.
- STAR assessment data was used across the curriculum to measure literacy levels and developmental progress in math skills.
- Step Up to Writing and Writing Across the Curriculum were used to increase student performance on the writing exam.
- Counselors and teacher mentors implemented the SAVE program, the Graduate Advocate program, and the peer advocate program.
- The Bear CLAWS program allowed for the continuation of the academic focus to extend beyond the school day.
- Brown JHS created the Brain Rules research project, utilizing current brain research in a three content area rotation.
- Parent training in guided reading and a leveled lending library provided academic support and promoted family literacy.
- Brown Junior High School sponsored the South African Rugby Team.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Teachers will collaborate to provide research-based instruction and interventions in ELA to increase achievement.
Objective(s): As measured by the CRT and NV Writing Proficiency Exam, all student subgroups will achieve AYP or Safe Harbor in English language arts (ELA) for the 2010-2011 school year.
