Mission Statement
Roy W. Martin Middle School, in partnership with the community, supports the mission to develop self-confident, internationally-minded, independent learners with strong character. We will provide our diverse population a student-centered, safe, caring, learning environment with respect for the uniqueness of the individual. As a professional learning community, we encourage high academic standards, integrating a technology-rich interdisciplinary curriculum.
 
Highlights
As an IB World School, Martin MS provides students innovative opportunities to develop advanced academic skills necessary for 21st Century careers based in sciences, arts, and global communications.
  • 69.01% of RM students met or exceeded Nevada standards for ELA proficiency. Students met AYP standards in all subgroups.
  • 66.15% of RM students met or exceeded Nevada standards for math proficiency. Students met AYP standards in 7 of 9 subgroups.
  • 65.6% of the Martin MS 8th graders met or exceeded Nevada Writing Proficiency standards in 2010, up 11.3% from previous year.
  • Title I resources provide reduced class sizes, after-school tutoring, teacher training, and supplemental student materials.
  • Band, orchestra, and choir earned superior/excellent ratings at CCSD festivals. 57% of RM students took art or music classes.
  • High school credit is offered in Computer Literacy, Algebra I Honors, Geometry Honors, Spanish I, French I, and Japanese I.
  • Boys basketball placed in CCSD Final Four while the Lady Colts earned a playoff position. Soccer continues to compete strong.
  • RM places in Speech-Debate, Test for Excellence, Science Fair, JV Quiz, & Magnet Schools of America national art competition.
  • Student Council "Spirit of Nevada" Award represented community service, character, and leadership activities of our students.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Martin MS students will increase proficiency in ELA on the 2011 CRT and the 8th grade Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam.

Objective(s):
ELA subgroups will meet or exceed the 63.8% proficiency target for 2011. 8th graders will meet or exceed the 63.8% proficiency target in reading and writing. Subgroups (Hispanic, LEP, IEP, and FRL) will reduce the number of non-proficient students by not less than 10% on the NV CRT & Writing Exam.

Goal 2
Martin MS Students will increase proficiency in mathematics on the 2011 Nevada CRT.

Objective(s):
Math subgroups will meet or exceed the 65.9% proficiency target for 2011. Sub-groups [Hispanic, Limited English Proficient (LEP), IEP, and Free/Reduced Lunch (FRL) will reduce the number of non-proficient students by not less than 10% on the Nevada CRT.
