Mission Statement
The mission of Reynaldo L. Martinez Elementary School is to provide a safe, positive, secure environment where all students can reach their potential in an ever-changing world. Teachers, parents and students will unite to raise student achievement by fostering: a life-long love of learning, a positive self-image, a sense of personal responsibility, an appreciation of individual differences and a development of talents.
 
Highlights
School-wide bi-monthly writing prompts were implemented to improve writing proficiency.
  • CHAMPs and Kagan Cooperative Learning were implemented school-wide to increase student engagement.
  • 21st Century After-School All Stars Program conducted academic and enrichment classes before and after school.
  • Family Academic Nights provided two evenings of academic activities in science and literacy.
  • Burst and Voyager Passport were utilized for Tier II and Tier III reading intervention in kindergarten through third grades.
  • The Toyota Family Literacy Grant was used to provide literacy support for parents of second language learners.
  • Greenspun Media Group, Santoro Driggs Walch Kearney Holley & Thompson Law Firm and Junior League of Las Vegas were partners.
  • Communities in Schools supported medical/dental needs through the Martinez Health Academy.
  • Professional staff worked together to provide support for all students in closing the achievement gap.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Increase the effectiveness of Tier I and Tier II instruction by analyzing common assessment and intervention data

Objective(s):
Show a 12% increase in the percentage of established students from the first benchmark in reading proficiency across all grade levels using DIBELS and reading fluency measures. Nevada CRT will increase from 54% to 66% with a specific increase for the IEP population from 4.08% to 16.08%.

Goal 2
Increase the effectiveness of Tier I instruction using Effective Lesson Components for number sense and problem solving

Objective(s):
Increase interim assessment results by 5% in the average score of the final assessment from 2010 to 2011. Nevada CRT will increase from 59% to 71% in 2011. A specific IEP math increase will be from 12.5% to 24.5%. FOSL data will show 70% implementation of the Components of an Effective Lesson.

Goal 3
Increase the effectiveness of writing instruction through common grade level writing prompts and scoring rubrics

Objective(s):
Monthly writing prompts K-5 will show a 12% increase in the percentage of proficient students from the first benchmark.
