Mission Statement
The mission of Wengert Elementary School is to provide quality education so that students will be able to read with comprehension, apply their mathematical thinking to real world applications, write to communicate effectively, work cooperatively and demonstrate good citizenship.
 
Highlights
Wengert Elementary, Dual Language Model offers Spanish/English languages to students in K-fifth grades in a professional learning community in which parents, students and staff work collaboratively.
  • 2009-2010 AYP: Wengert students demonstrated proficiency in reading and math as measured by NCLB Assessment.
  • 2009-2010 Annual Measurable Objectives (AMO): Wengert students demonstrated achievement in compliance with NCLB (AYP).
  • STPT: Teachers collaborated weekly to assess students' needs and plan instructional activities to meet target goals.
  • SMART Goals: K-5 teachers drafted trimester goals in reading, writing and math. Students signed and posted agreed-upon goals.
  • Reading Academy Initiative: Students received additional reading intervention tutorial assistance to achieve reading mastery.
  • Recognition: Trimester award assembly, VIP; movie premier show, Gotcha Mall; awards on 7 habits of successful students.
  • Fifth grade: Showcased historical research in Wax Museum display and completed Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE).
  • Parent Advisory Board: Parents served on school improvement team and facilitated parent educational meetings and fundraising.
  • Singing Wildcats Honor Choir: Composed of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students, performed in school-wide events and meetings.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Wengert students will demonstrate proficiency in reading on the 2010-2011 Nevada Criterion Referenced Test (CRT).

Objective(s):
Increase the number of students proficient in reading in third, fourth and fifth grades measured by Nevada Criterion Referenced Test. Specific increases will be made in the content cluster of read to comprehend, interpret and evaluate informational text in reading.

Goal 2
Wengert students will demonstrate proficiency in mathematics on the 2010-2011 Nevada Criterion Referenced Test.

Objective(s):
Increase the number of students proficient in math in third, fourth and fifth grades measured by Nevada Criterion Referenced Test. Specific increases will be made in the content cluster of immediate recall of information and utilization of basic mathematics facts.

Goal 3
Students in fifth grade will demonstrate proficiency in writing on the 2010-2011 Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam.

Objective(s):
Increase the number of proficient fifth grade students measured by 2010-1011 Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam. Specific improvement will be made in applying writing convention of spelling, punctuation, capitalization and grammar.
