Mission Statement
We are a dedicated community that nourishes achievement, independence, and responsibility in a safe environment.
 
Highlights
Whitney Elementary School strove to provide an excellent education for all students. Academic success and social growth were enhanced as a result of our accomplishments.
  • Walk to Read flexible reading groups were implemented in grades K-5.
  • Full-day kindergarten continued to be implemented.
  • Before- and after-school tutoring and enrichment funded by 21st Century grant was implemented for all students.
  • The High Quality Sheltered Instruction model was implemented to enhance the teaching of all students.
  • Passport Voyager, Lexia, Ticket to Read, and FasttMath reading and math intervention programs assisted struggling students.
  • Common school-wide assessments and pre/post benchmark assessments ensured data-driven instruction.
  • Write From the Beginning, Thinking Maps, and Words Their Way were implemented in order to increase mastery in language arts.
  • School-wide discipline procedures were implemented and enforced to ensure positive student behaviors and time on-task.
  • A standards-based reporting system was utilized to report benchmark proficiency levels in alignment to state standards.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will increase the Meets and Exceeds proficiency levels by 15%.

Objective(s):
Between September 2010 and June 2013, student performance will increase in grades 3, 4, and 5 minimally 5% each year for a total of 15% as measured by the 2012-2013 Criterion Referenced Test. As measured by the Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam and CRT, all subgroups will make AYP or Safe Harbor.

Goal 2
All students will increase the proficiency in answering DOK Level 2 and 3 questions.

Objective(s):
Between September 2010 and June 2013 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will increase proficiency on DOK Level 2 and 3 questions by 5% each year for a total of 15% as measured by the CRT. All students will increase proficiency on DOK Level 2 and 3 questions by 5%.
