Mission Statement |
|
The mission of John S. Park-Edison Elementary School is to give all students the opportunity to achieve grade-level skills as set by state and national standards through differentiated instruction. We will encourage positive social and emotional growth through the use of Edison Core Values in a safe, secure and encouraging community environment. The entire staff embraces this belief and has a comprehensive support system of modeling, encouraging and tutoring to achieve these goals. |

John S. Park-Edison was in the tenth year of implementing the Edison research-based school design model. EdisonLearning provided Teaching and Achievement Academies for administration and teachers.- The students made 10% gain on reading CRT's, an 8.3% growth on math CRT's and 9% on writing proficiencies.
- Teachers analyzed Edison, AIMS Web and district assessment data to create skill lessons for Focus Friday and CRT Intensives.
- Dog tags were awarded at quarterly achievement assemblies for academic achievement, perfect attendance and citizenship.
- Kindergarten students who reached all grade level benchmarks were recognized as members of our "2023" Club (graduation year).
- 5th grade students wore "Class of 2018" T-shirts on visits to Fremont Middle School, & met their new principal and teachers.
- Student names were posted on our Wall of Fame and other incentives were earned for achieving Accelerated Reader points.
- A new Internet-based math tutorial program, iPass, was used for before, during & after school, and Saturday School tutoring.
- Honor choir, Peer Mediators, soccer, football, basketball and cheerleading were well attended by students and family members.
- We partnered with CCIM, City of Las Vegas, Kiwanis and TZU CHI Foundation throughout the year.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Students will improve problem solving, measurement and geometry, time and money, and algebra and functions skills.
Objective(s): The percent of students proficient on the Nevada CRT for mathematics will increase from 65.45% to 73%, especially on questions about measurement & geometry, time & money, algebra & functions, and constructed responses. The number of passing students in each subgroup will increase by at least 10%.
Goal 2 Students will increase achievement in reading with a focus on informational text and constructed response answers.
Objective(s): The percent of 3rd - 5th grade students proficient on the Nevada reading CRT will increase from 54.22% to 67% and at least 67% of students in grades K-2 will meet year-end reading targets especially on questions related to interpreting informational text. Each subgroup will improve by 10%.
Goal 3 Students in grade 5 will increase writing achievement as measured by the 2011 Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam.
Objective(s): Between September, 2010 and April, 2011, at least 50% of students in K - 5th grades will meet their year-end writing targets as measured on school-wide Mock Writing Proficiency Tests and the Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam.
