The commitment of Thompson Elementary is to instill a sense of lifelong learning through service, challenge, and excellence within our school community to ensure our students become responsible, productive citizens of a diverse society. |

Sandra L. Thompson Elementary School, where academic excellence, outstanding citizenship, and hard work is valued and recognized, is proud to highlight the following accomplishments:- Designated as a school making adequate yearly progress (AYP) by meeting or surpassing federal criteria and requirements;
- Continued to achieve above the district average in reading, writing, math, and science based on the Nevada CRT;
- Utilized Response to Intervention to provide focused instruction to students not meeting grade level standards;
- Provided several extra-curricular activities for students, such as art club, running club, choir, science club, and drama;
- Utilized money provided by Area 1 to provide after-school and weekend tutoring for students in reading, writing, and math;
- Enhanced professional practice by providing site-based professional development in high quality differentiated instruction;
- Collaborated with Thompson's outstanding PTA to provide school events such as the Thompson Walk-a-Thon and Spring Carnival;
- Implemented full day tuition-based kindergarten, welcoming 22 FDK learners for the 2010-2011 school year;
- Enhanced school climate by implementing the BE KIND program, partnering with the Josh Stevens Foundation to promote kindness.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Increase overall proficiency in reading while decreasing the achievement gap between subgroups.
Objective(s): The number of proficient students in reading will increase from 73% to 80%. Proficiency among African American students will increase from 46% to 55%. Proficiency among IEP students will increase from 45% to 49%. Proficiency among LEP students will increase from 39% to 47%.
Goal 2 5th grade students will increase overall proficiency in writing with a focus on the trait of Conventions.
Objective(s): The number of fifth grade students identified as proficient in writing on the 2010-2011 Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam will increase from 62.5% to 70%. Specific improvement will be made on the writing trait Conventions, with the average score increasing from 3 to 3.3.
Goal 3 Increase overall proficiency in mathematics while decreasing the achievement gap between subgroups.
Objective(s): The number of proficient students in math will increase from 77% to 80%. Proficiency among African American students will increase from 53% to 60%. Proficiency among IEP students will increase from 52% to 57%. Proficiency among LEP students will increase from 58% to 64%.
