The Jay W. Jeffers inquiry-based science school community provides a safe environment to support the learning of each student, parent and staff member. We collaborate in the discovery of paths that each of us take to be responsible members of society, reach academic excellence and remain curious lifelong learners. |

Jay W. Jeffers Empowerment School is an inquiry-based science school. We use science as a basis to establish, develop and encourage literacy and math skills. We are proud to highlight the following:- Class size reduction was in place for students in grades 1 through 3.
- Kindergarten students received full-day instruction.
- A solid curricular program was offered to all students in math, reading, writing, science and social studies.
- Response to Intervention (RTI) was implemented as a way to meet the instructional needs of all students.
- Science Saturdays offered families a way to explore scientific concepts while integrating literacy and math.
- The Kids Inquiry Conference introduced fourth and fifth graders to the world of authentic science sharing through Inquiry.
- Students participated in after-school academic camps in reading, language and mathematics to increase achievement.
- The Peer Mediation and Conflict Resolution three-year grant was continued to support a positive school environment.
- 30 families participated in the Family Leadership Institute, a program designed to increase parents' leadership skills.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Students will increase achievement in math in Numbers & Operations, Algebra & Functions and Measurement & Geometry.
Objective(s): Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will show an increase in math achievement. There will be a 10% reduction of non-proficient students to obtain Safe Harbor. Students in all subgroups will demonstrate a 10% increase in accuracy on Depth of Knowledge level 1 questions.
Goal 2 Students will increase achievement in reading, specifically for understanding informational text.
Objective(s): Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will show an increase in reading achievement. There will be a 10% reduction of non-proficient students to obtain Safe Harbor. Students in all subgroups will demonstrate a 10% increase in proficiency for understanding informational text.
Goal 3 Students in grade 5 will increase writing proficiency.
Objective(s): Students in grade 5 will show an increase in writing proficiency. There will be a 10% reduction of non-proficient students to obtain Safe Harbor. Students in all subgroups will demonstrate a 10% increase in the area of Conventions.
