The Liliam Lujan Hickey Elementary School learning community is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment where students are challenged and empowered to strive toward academic, social, and personal excellence. Students are recognized as unique individuals, culturally diverse in a community where they will develop a lifelong appreciation for learning in the 21st century. |

Hickey Elementary has many accomplishments including class size reduction, Fast ForWord, and Fastt Math interventions. Teachers have been trained in guided reading and the enVisions Math program.- Class size reduction was achieved in grades 4 and 5 with Title 1 funding.
- We had the highest book circulation in CCSD with over 26,000 library books available on a daily basis.
- We had a strong parent community connection through Library Fairs, Family Nights, and Nevada Reading Week.
- Choir, Science Club, and JAWS provided our students with extra-curricular experiences.
- Tutoring was provided after school and during three Saturday Curriculum Reference Test camps.
- Students could arrive 20 minutes early to participate in the Accelerated Reader program.
- The Science Lab increased student engagement, vocabulary, and strategies for interpreting informational text for grades 1-5.
- Staff development days focused on the "Writing Traits" to improve our teachers' writing instruction.
- Counselor support groups motivated and encouraged 4th and 5th graders to strive for academic excellence.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Writing proficiency will increase for all students across the curriculum.
Objective(s): Proficient 5th grade student writing scores will increase by 37% on the Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam in the 2010-2011 school year. Students in grades K, 1, 2, 3, and 4 will show a 37% gain in student writing scores as measured on the Area 1 writing prompts.
Goal 2 Reading proficiency will increase for all students across the curriculum.
Objective(s): Proficient 3rd grade reading scores will increase by 36%, proficient 4th grade reading scores will increase by 22%, and proficient 5th grade reading scores will increase by 19% as measured by the State School Improvement Assessment.
Goal 3 Math proficiency will increase for students in each grade level.
Objective(s): Students in grades K-2 will show a 20% gain in mathematics scores as measured by comparing each trimester interim results from 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. Students in grades 3-5 will show an 80% proficiency in student math scores as measured by the State School Improvement Assessment.
