Mission Statement
The staff, parents, and students of Aldeane Comito Ries Elementary School will work in partnership to provide a safe and orderly environment in which all students are taught the academic and social skills necessary to become productive and successful citizens. We will accomplish this through the use of research-based instructional strategies and collaboration in a diverse atmosphere that promotes respect for self and others.
 
Highlights
The school community worked together with the community to set high expectations for students and provided them with the skills needed to excel.
  • Student of the Month luncheons were held to recognize academic and behavioral excellence.
  • The Response to Intervention program continued in its third full year of identifying and assisting struggling learners.
  • The music teacher presented the first Aldeane Ries talent show. It featured students from all grade levels.
  • Before and after school Tier II tutoring was offered to students identified through the Response to Intervention process.
  • Aldeane Ries participated in the "Pennies for Patients" drive.
  • The students participated in "Curefinders" to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

  • Fifth grade students attended Sea Camp in San Diego.
  • Updated technology allowed students to utilize new programs, for example Ticket to Read and V-Math.
  • Family involvement events were provided, such as Math Night, Reading Night, Writing Night, Science Night and a Fitness Fair.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Fifth grade students will increase achievement in writing on the Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam.

Objective(s):
The percent of 5th grade students proficient on the Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam will increase from 60.9% to 65.9% in the area of conventions. An increase from 50% to 60% White, 48.72% to 58.72% LEP, and 44.64% to 54.64% Hispanic.

Goal 2
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will increase achievement in math on the spring 2010-2011 CRT.

Objective(s):
Measured by the CRT's, current results indicate that 73.1% of students in grades 3-5, 59.1% Hispanic, 54.5% AA, and 65.4% IEP, subgroups met proficiency in reading. By 2011, 78.1% of students in grades 3-5, 69.1% Hispanic, 64.5% AA, and 75.4% IEP subgroups will meet proficiency.

Goal 3
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will increase achievement in reading on the spring 2010-2011 CRT.

Objective(s):
Measured by the CRT's, current results indicate that 65.7% of students in grades 3-5, 56.2% Hispanic, 56.5% AA, 53.2% IEP, and 49% LEP subgroups met proficiency in reading. By 2011, 70.7% of students in grades 3-5, 66.5% AA, 63.2% IEP, and 59% LEP subgroups will meet proficiency.
