John R. Hummel Elementary School provides a positive, nurturing learning environment where all students are expected to achieve academic excellence and exhibit good citizenship.- Monthly school-wide writing assessments monitored student writing proficiency.
- The Lexia and Earobics computer programs were used for academic interventions.
- Reading A-Z was used to address individual student needs; RazKids provided school-home connection with online leveled books.
- Classroom award presentations recognized students for academics, citizenship, 100% attendance, and improving grades.
- Student of the Week/Student of the Month recognition was given for students exhibiting school Life Skills.
- The web-based Accelerated Reader computer program was used to monitor and improve student reading comprehension.
- Power Hour was implemented school-wide, the first 50 minutes of instruction to practice math facts and reading interventions.
- The Missoula Children's Theatre production of "Treasure Island" was presented by Hummel Elementary School students.
- Breakfast Bookworm program promoting family literacy was held monthly.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Decrease percentage of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders scoring non-proficient in ELA from 40% to 30%.
Objective(s): Hummel ES will make safe harbor by decreasing the number of non-proficient students from the previous year by 10% in ELA. This will be accomplished by implementing 30 minutes of daily directed intervention time, based on assessment data collected on all students.
Goal 2 The percentage of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students scoring non-proficient in math will decrease from 32% to 22%.
Objective(s): Hummel ES will continue to make safe harbor by decreasing the number of non-proficient students from the previous year by 10% in math. This will be accomplished by implementing 15 minutes of daily directed math fact review.
