Mission Statement
The Goolsby Leadership Community is united in the belief that all children will become successful leaders of the future through an academically rigorous program in literacy, scientific inquiry, mathematical applications, and interdisciplinary connections.
 
Highlights
Goolsby ES is a Leadership and Best Practices School in Area Service Center 4. An Accelerated Governance Structure promotes collaboration, continual learning, and student achievement.
  • Inquiry-based science and mathematics instruction provided hands-on, authentic learning experiences for students.
  • Class-size reduction ensured optimal teacher-to-student ratios.
  • Kindergarten through 5th grade students wrote and illustrated books for publication.
  • The Parent Leadership Team organized fundraisers, student recognition activities, and community events.
  • Master teachers were recognized for training CCSD teachers in literacy and mathematics.
  • FastForward Literacy and other academic tutorials were offered after school.
  • AIMS Web was used for grades K-5 to assess students in fluency and comprehension in reading every trimester.
  • Student displays, wax museums, and student musical performances were featured activities.
  • A School Steering Committee collaborated to create an inclusive school governance.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Students will increase proficiency levels in writing, specifically in the analytic Trait of Conventions.

Objective(s):
Between September 2010 and January 2011, students' performance as measured by the Nevada Writing Proficiency Examination will increase in grade 5 from 84.4% to 86.0%. Specific gains will be made in the analytic trait of Conventions.

Goal 2
Students in grade 5 at Goolsby Elementary will increase proficiency in science achievement as measured by the CRT.

Objective(s):
Between September 2010 and January 2011, students' performance as measured by the science CRT will increase in grade 5 from 78.87% to 81.0%.
