Mission Statement
The community of J. Marlan Walker International School creates a positive, enriched learning environment for students to achieve academically and to develop an awareness of themselves and others as they prepare for success in a global society.
 
Highlights
We are proud to share the following highlights:
  • The language immersion program provided students with an opportunity to receive instruction in both English and Spanish.
  • Walker was a "No Place for Hate" school again this year and was recognized in the media for their Peace Week activities.
  • Aligned with the Global Studies emphasis, Walker hosted the rugby team from Argentina after a month long study of life there.
  • Students were regularly recognized for display of core values, academic achievement, citizenship, and attendance.
  • Students in the G.A.T.E. program traveled to San Francisco and experienced the multiculturalism of the city.
  • Walker's active, dedicated PTA encouraged family involvement and supported the school community.
  • The "Watch Dog Dads" program was implemented.
  • Students participated in Storytelling, Battle of the Books, and 3rd Grade Book Club.
  • Students participated in Drum Circle, Jump Rope for Heart, and the Housing Authority art contest.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Students will increase writing achievement.

Objective(s):
Increase percentage of students who meet standards from 54.4% to 63.8%, and percentage who exceed standards from 1.9% to 7.8%. Reduce percentage of students who approach standards from 38.6% to 28.6%. Increase proficiency of IEP subgroup from 27.3% to 63.8% and Hispanic subgroup from 42.7 to 63.8%.

Goal 2
Increase achievement in grades 3-5 in mathematics, specifically in geometry and measurement.

Objective(s):
Increase proficiency in measurement and geometry in third grade from 77.4% to 87.4%, in fourth grade from 59.9% to 65.9% and in fifth grade from 53.3% to 65.9%.
