Mission Statement
The diverse citizens of the Steve Cozine Elementary School community pledge our commitment to establish productive, lifelong learners, through inclusive practices in a cooperative environment.
 
Highlights
Steve Cozine Elementary promotes Inclusive Schools Practices throughout the campus. We are a community of learners and partners in education to promote student achievement and academic success.
  • Conducted Inclusive Schools Practices Week which focused on awareness of different cultures and disabilities;
  • Implemented both "Cozine Climbers' Sight Words Club" and "Math Facts Club" to improve students reading and math skills;
  • Implemented the Peer Mediation program with peer mediators in grades 3-5;
  • Offered student enrichment opportunities through Art Club, Homework Club, Ecology Club and music ensembles;
  • Provided after-school math and literacy tutoring though the use of Title 1 funds to focus on raising student achievement;
  • Conducted a College culture/Career Week as a part of the "Post-Secondary Initiative;"
  • Implemented a "SWAT"(Students Will All Teach) peer tutoring program for 4th and 5th graders and 2nd graders;
  • Implemented a school-wide character education program to promote citizenship, integrity, responsibility and cooperation;
  • Celebrated Nevada Reading Week with weeklong activities and invited parents to a Literacy Night.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Increase the effectiveness of Tier I ELA and mathematics instruction.

Objective(s):
FOSL data will show 70% of lessons observed will be based on grade level, standards-based Tier I instruction utilizing the Components of an Effective Lesson.

Goal 2
Increase the effectiveness of Tier I ELA and mathematics instruction.

Objective(s):
By the end of the school year there will be a 10% decrease in the percent of non-proficient students as measured by CRT.
