Mission Statement
Students at Brookman will demonstrate mastery of grade level standards and skills and be able to apply them to new academic experiences. Teachers and staff will support these learning experiences by differentiating instruction, using actively engaging lessons and interventions, promoting family involvement, collaborating their efforts, and incorporating appropriate resources and materials. Together with teacher and staff support, students will actively participate in opportunities for academic achievement, self-reflection, and problem-solving to become educated and responsible citizens.
 
Highlights
All members of the Eileen Brookman ES community are committed to helping students "Construct the Path to Success" through collaborative efforts and standards of excellence.
  • Common grade-level assessments were developed/analyzed for data driven decision making and tracking of student achievement.
  • Structured Teacher Planning Time was utilized to analyze data trends and adjust instruction and student groupings.
  • 100% of teachers were trained in and implemented "The Daily 5", which fosters literacy independence.
  • 100% of teachers were trained in and implemented "Units of Study" by Lucy Calkins, which fosters writing.
  • Spring CRT Blitz was conducted with students in grades 3, 4, and 5 to increase skills necessary to pass the CRT's.
  • Winter Program, Cultural Arts Night, Talent Show, and Honor Choir appearances showcased student talents.
  • End of trimester awards assemblies recognized students for academics and attendance.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Students in grade 5 will increase their writing proficiency as measured by the Nevada State Writing Proficiency Exam.

Objective(s):
By February 2011, 60% of students in grade 5 will demonstrate proficiency on the 5th grade Nevada State Writing Proficiency Exam.

Goal 2
Students in grade 5 will increase their writing proficiency as measured by the Nevada State Writing Proficiency Exam.

Objective(s):
By July 2011, as measured by site-specific rubrics, 80% of kindergarten students will score an 8 (out of 20) or better on the primary rubric and 80% of students in grades 1-5 will score a 14 or better on the primary/intermediate writing rubric.

Goal 3
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 at Brookman ES will increase achievement in reading as measured by the Nevada CRT.

Objective(s):
By April 2011, 67% of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will demonstrate proficiency in reading on the Nevada CRT. Additionally, the IEP, Black/African-American, and FRL subgroups will increase proficiency by 10%.
