The mission of the Manuel J. Cortez Elementary School is to foster a safe environment in which the school community encourages high expectations and all learners reach their full potential. |

Manuel J. Cortez ES is proud to announce the highlights for the 2010-2011 school year:- We provided full-day kindergarten.
- We offered early literacy programs including Waterford and Breakthrough to Literacy.
- We had class-size reduction in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades.
- We offered before-school and after-school reading programs, including Reading A-Z.
- Read 180 was used in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades to increase student achievement.
- Students in grades 2-5 used Study Island computer software to improve test-taking strategies.
- ST Math was used in grades 2-5.
- There were single-gender classrooms in grades 1-5.
- The Title-I Irene Espinoza Parent Center was open to parents and families.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Students in grade 5 will increase achievement in writing as measured by the 2010-2011 Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam.
Objective(s): As measured by the Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam, all subgroups will increase to 46% proficiency.
Goal 2 Differentiated instruction & scaffolding strategies will be used to improve instruction & increase student achievement.
Objective(s): As measured by classroom observation data, teachers will increasingly use scaffolding and differentiated instruction strategies. Students in grades 3-5 will achieve the ELA target of 63.8% and the mathematics of 65.9%, or attain safe harbor, as measured by the CRT and the Nevada Writing Exam.
