The mission of Guy Elementary School community is to work collectively to ensure a safe and cooperative environment, where all children have the opportunity to achieve academically, develop socially, and grow emotionally. |

Guy ES provides educational opportunities for all students. We have a strong focus on student success in mastering grade level standards.- Hosted trimester Awards Assemblies for students to recognize social and academic achievements
- Accessed Area 1 funds to offer after-school tutoring in grades 3-5 in the areas of math and reading
- Collaborated with PTA to hold Bingo Nights, Fall Festival, Spring Carnival, Family Dance, and other monthly activity nights
- Implemented "Being Kind" in association with the Josh Stevens' Foundation to promote kindness among students
- Implemented writing tutoring for fifth grade students to remediate and assist in developing effective writing skills
- Implemented a Language Acquisition Academy for grades K-2 to build vocabulary and develop English language skills
- Analyzed NV Content Standards across grades K-5 to ensure student mastery of reading and mathematics
- Implemented Area 1 Focus on Student Learning (FOSL) data collection to foster improved learning and instructional practices
- Studied professional literature regarding differentiated small group instruction within the classroom

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 We will provide standards-based ELA instruction using site resources & data analysis to drive instructional practice.
Objective(s): Grades K-2 will increase the number of proficient students in reading by 10% as compared to the 2010 Interim Survey results. Grades 3, 4, and 5 will increase the number of proficient students in reading to 70% school-wide and attain 5% growth in targeted subgroups as compared to the 2010 CRT data.
Goal 2 We will increase quality math instruction by ensuring both long term and short term review occurs throughout the year.
Objective(s): Grades K-2 on the Interim Survey results will show a 10% growth in proficiency from 2009-10 school year to the 2010-11 school year. Grades 3, 4, and 5 will increase the number of proficient students in math to 80% school-wide and attain 3% growth in targeted subgroups as compared to the 2010 CRT.
Goal 3 We will provide standards-based ELA instruction using site resources & data analysis to drive instructional practice.
Objective(s): The number of proficient students in writing K-4 will increase by 10% based on the school wide writing prompts. Grade 5 students will increase the number of proficient students in writing to 58.1% as measured by the January 2011 Nevada Writing Assessment.
