Mission Statement
Children are our future. We are dedicated to their success: To achieve our vision, we will prepare our students to become independent learners with the desires, the skills, and the abilities necessary for lifelong learning. This will require creating a learning environment, which is centered on students, directed by teachers, and supported by home and community.

Highlights
Worthwhile goals give purpose to our work and meaning to our achievements. The vision we have for our school is preceded by our school goals, resulting in improved achievement.
  • The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) worked closely with staff to provide students with an optimal learning environment.
  • The literacy specialist provided testing, training, and Family Literacy Workshops for students, teachers, and parents.
  • During- and after-school tutoring programs assisted students with reading fluency and comprehension.
  • School and community funds were used to purchase the Voyager Passport reading assistance program for struggling students.
  • Lexia and Imagine educational software were used to assist non-proficient students with literacy skills.
  • Teachers conducted book studies concerning educational research and teaching strategies to help improve instruction.
  • Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills tests for K, 1, and 2 helped to measure reading achievement.
  • The School Governance Committee established learning communities, promoted discussion of instruction, and class management.
  • Thorpe Thoughts monthly newsletter shared test results, improvement goals, safety issues, and attendance.
