At Ernest J. May School, opportunities are provided for all students to succeed in an emotionally healthy environment where high self-esteem is fostered. All students are given opportunities to develop and display individual talents and to acquire the capacity to articulate ideas, respond to change, and become lifelong learners. |

Students at May are provided with quality instruction that fosters high academic expectations and student engagement. We are proud to be a school where success is achieved and celebrated.- Students participated in student council, the annual talent show, a production of Cinderella, and community service projects.
- Full-day tuition-based kindergarten was offered at May Elementary School during the 2010-2011 school year.
- On a weekly basis, each teacher selected a student to receive recognition from administration as the "Student of the Week".
- Students were recognized each trimester with grade level awards assemblies to celebrate academic and social achievement.
- Inclusion provided opportunities to promote success for special education students in the general education classroom.
- Family Literacy Night included a book exchange, milk and cookies, and various activities to promote literacy in the home.
- Students participated in a variety of activities for Peace Week and No Name Calling Week during the month of January.
- The "Be Kind" program was implemented to celebrate students who displayed genuine kindness and concern for others.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Increase writing achievement in grades K-5, utilizing the grade level rubrics as the scoring tool.
Objective(s): Increase number of students proficient by 10% on the Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam for fifth grade by the end of the 2010-2011 school year. In grades K-4, 70% of the students in each grade level will score 12 or higher on the final school-wide writing prompt using a designated grade level rubric.
Goal 2 Increase reading fluency for students in grades K-5.
Objective(s): 80% of the students in grades K-5 will meet grade level benchmarks by the end of the year using the DIBELS assessment tool.
