The mission of Helen Herr Elementary School is to provide a safe, secure, standards-based learning environment which models and nurtures life-long learners who will develop the skills of productive, caring, educated citizens to meet the needs of today's changing world. |

The students of Helen Herr ES always go above and beyond. We are pleased to showcase the following highlights for the 2010-2011 school year:- High Quality Sheltered Instruction (HQSI) enhanced the curriculum and better met the needs of our second language students.
- Structured Teacher Planning Time (STPT) was held weekly to access data and work collaboratively to address student needs.
- Monthly parent connections supported school goals by training parents in reading and math using school/community resources.
- Math and literacy nights were held to promote families and teachers working together to increase student achievement.
- We received federal funds through ARRA (stimulus money) to assist academic programs and teacher professional development.
- Accelerated Reader (AR) was a school-wide program utilized to reinforce skills and promote independent reading.
- Voyager Passport was implemented 30-minutes daily to meet individual needs at each student's performance level in grades 1-5.
- DIBELS data were used to form flexible ability groups for differentiated instruction.
- Math fact drills were administered daily to promote mastery of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 All K-5 teachers will implement a standards based curriculum that is horizontally and vertically aligned.
Objective(s): By the end of 2010-2011, AYP data will demonstrate at least a 10% reduction in the percentage of non-proficient students in ELA. Objective 2: By the end of 2010-2011, FOSL walks will reveal that at least 70% of lessons observed will be standards-based and aligned to grade level benchmarks.
Goal 2 Teachers will provide effective and balanced Tier I Literacy instruction utilizing data analysis of common assessments.
Objective(s): By the end of 2010-2011 school year, Interim Survey Assessment data in grades K-2 will demonstrate at least 80% of students scoring 67% or higher. Interim Survey Assessment data in grades 3-5 will demonstrate at least 60% of students scoring 67% or higher.
Goal 3 Teachers will provide effective and balanced Tier I Literacy instruction utilizing data analysis of common assessments.
Objective(s): By the end of the 2010-2011 school year, students 2-5 will show an increase of at least one year's growth in reading grade level equivalent as measured by the STAR assessment.
