Walter Jacobson Elementary School was designated as a school earning "Adequate" status towards Adequate Yearly Progress for the 2009-2010 school year.- CRT Saturday Boot Camp was provided for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to increase motivation and review grade level standards.
- Trimester Honor Assemblies were held to acknowledge students' academic success, attendance, and application of Life Skills.
- Walter Jacobson ES received Title 1 ARRA funding to support student academic achievement.
- A monthly principal's luncheon was held to honor students from each classroom who exhibited exemplary Life Skills.
- Title 1 parent meetings were conducted by grade level to provide families with academic tools and resources.
- Walter Jacobson used Response to Instruction (RTI) where instructors monitored student progress on a weekly basis.
- Parents attended monthly multicultural assemblies performed by grade levels with cultural music, art, and dance.
- After-school tutoring in math and reading was provided for students needing additional support and instruction.
- "Pawsitive" behavior recognitions included Jacobson Cub Cash Rewards and Student of the Month certificates.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Students in grade 5 will increase achievement in writing as measured by the 2011 NV Writing Proficiency Exam.
Objective(s): Grade 5 students will show a 20% increase in writing proficiency across all subgroups from 37% to 57%, as measured on the 2011 Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam.
Goal 2 Students in grades 3-5 will show increased proficiency in reading as measured by the 2011 Criterion Referenced Test.
Objective(s): Students in grades 3-5 will increase proficiency in reading as measured by the 2010 Nevada CRT exam from 57.24% to 63.8%. The percentage of non-proficient students in the subgroups of African American and IEP will decrease by a minimum of 10% in order to reduce the achievement gap among subgroups.
Goal 3 Students in grades 3-5 will show increased proficiency in math as measured by the 2011 Criterion Referenced Test.
Objective(s): Students in grades 3-5 will increase proficiency in math as measured by the 2011 Criterion Referenced Test from 62.77% to 65.9%. The percentage of non-proficient students in the African American and IEP subgroups will decrease by a minimum of 10% in order to reduce the achievement gap.
