Highlights
This small school with a BIG heart, located fifty miles north of Las Vegas, helps better meet the social, emotional and academic needs of students. Community spirit and parent support remain strong.
  • Kindergarten: Full-day kindergarten was provided. Full-day is unique to Perkins in the Moapa Valley area.
  • Tutoring: After-school tutoring provided through alternative avenues after loss of state funding.
  • Instructional Teams: Teacher teams met regularly to dialog about instruction, data and/or current instructional practices.
  • Autism: Perkins served students with autism from Early Childhood through fifth grade from the Moapa Valley area.
  • Paiute Reservation: Served students of the Southern Paiute Reservation, strengthening ties with tribal leaders and parents.
  • Prioritized Standards: Intentional efforts aligned teacher materials with prioritized curriculum, less coverage & more depth.
  • School Vision/Focus: "All students reading on grade level or above" drove the school in a common direction.
  • Science Day: NV Energy, Commissioner Collins, and a host of local business and community partners applied science to life.
  • Fine Arts: Flag Drill Team, Patriot Dancers and Instrumental Group practiced before school and went on tour to perform.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
70 minutes of daily math instruction that includes 15-20 minutes of math facts and/or review

Objective(s):
Students will show at least a 6% increase from 59% to 65% on math fact-related standards on Compass Learning "Test Summary by Objective" report and 5% positive growth in Measurement & Geometry on CRT Strand/Cluster Report and P-Value Report.

Goal 2
Daily practice/review of Word Analysis Skills & provide non-fiction reading activities that have real world application

Objective(s):
Students will show at least a 7% increase from 58% to 65% on reading-related standards on Compass Learning "Test Summary by Objective" report and 5% positive growth on CRT Strand/Cluster Report and P-Value Report.
