The mission of Kitty Ward Empowerment School is to provide a safe, enthusiastic, and challenging environment that promotes learning and achievement. We are a community of students, staff, and families working together toward academic success and social growth. |

Kitty Ward Elementary School is in its fourth year of being distinguished as an empowerment school. We created a school of excellence focused on enhanced achievement for all students.- Additional class-size reduction in grades 1-5 was implemented in the area of language arts for 60 minutes each day.
- An additional 20 minutes of instruction was provided daily to kindergarten and Early Childhood Education classes.
- Before- and after-school academies provided enrichment classes for students that complement and extend student learning.
- Before- and after-school academies provided remediation for students needing additional assistance in reading and math.
- Lexia, Reading Plus, and Compass Learning are computer programs used by students for remediation and enrichment in reading.
- Compass Learning and ST Math are computer programs used by students for remediation and enrichment in mathematics.
- Empowerment funds were utilized to fund two intervention specialists to work with students in the areas of reading and math.
- Empowerment funds were utilized to fund three additional teacher assistants: two for kindergarten and one for intervention.
- Interactive Promethean boards and iPods were used in every classroom as a technology initiative for the 21st Century Learner.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Students in third, fourth, and fifth grades will increase achievement in math as measured by the spring 2011 Nevada CRT.
Objective(s): Achievement in 2010-11, 65.9% of students in all subgroups will meet proficiency standards on the CRT in math; in 2011-12, 77.2% of students in all subgroups will meet proficiency standards on the CRT in math; in 2012-13, 88.5% of students will meet proficiency standards on the CRT in math.
Goal 2 Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will increase achievement in reading as measured by the spring 2011 Nevada CRT.
Objective(s): Achievement in 2010-11, 63.8% of students in all subgroups will meet proficiency standards on the CRT in reading; in 2011-12, 75% of students in all subgroups will meet proficiency standards on the CRT in reading; in 2012-13, 88% of students will meet proficiency standards on the CRT in reading.
