The students at D. L. "Dusty" Dickens Elementary School are discovering new things every day. We take pride in sharing the following highlights from the 2010-11 school year:- After-school tutoring for students in grades 1-5 was provided through Title I funds.
- In-school supplemental reading instruction was provided through federal funds.
- A school-wide character recognition program was implemented to promote positive behavior.
- Awards assemblies were held each trimester to recognize academic and social achievement.
- Title I funds were used to implement Study Island, an online reading comprehension program for grades 1- 5.
- We implemented Kagan structures to increase student engagement.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will increase achievement in the area of English language arts.
Objective(s): Students in grades 3-5 will achieve English language arts target of 63.8% as measured by the January 2011 Nevada Writing Proficiency Exam and the March 2011 reading Criterion Referenced Test. Students in K-2 will increase achievement by 10% from September to May on the DIBELS reading test.
Goal 2 Students in grades 3-5 will increase achievement in mathematics.
Objective(s): Students in grades 3-5 will achieve the mathematics target of 65.9% as measured by the March 2011 Criterion Referenced Test. Students in grades K-2 will increase achievement levels by at least 10% as measured by standards-based common assessments.
