Mission Statement |
|
The mission of the Las Vegas Charter School of the Deaf (LVCSD) is to promote quality educational opportunities and achievements for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing students of Las Vegas by providing a comprehensive bilingual (American Sign Language and English) education and a complete array of outreach services for parents and professionals throughout Clark County. This listing is reflective of the entire school and includes the following four goals: 1)Improving the opportunities for pupils to learn; 2)Encouraging the use of effective bilingual methods of teaching; 3)Providing an accurate measurement of the educational achievement of pupils; and 4)A working environment with no communication barriers with the shared goal of helping the pupils to develop language, academic, and social success. |

All staff of LVCSD and its K-3 students are brought together to create a successful, positive and valuable deaf education, using shared strategies and expertise of the bilingual philosophy.- During the LVCSD open house, winter and spring programs students performed for their families and community members.
- Students completed projects such as creating and presenting their family tree, 100th Day of School and Black History month.
- Community awareness of LVCSD increased through Fox 5 news, ch 13 news, Review Journal, Blvds, LV View, radio & telethon.
- Field trips were provided to the Pumpkin Patch, Magical Forest and Build-A-Bear workshop.
- LVCSD provided 2 different levels of ASL classes for parents to learn signs and be able to communicate with their children.
- In the Shared Reading Project teachers demonstrated how to effectively read and express stories in American Sign Language.

Goals and Objectives |
Goal 1 Students will receive a quality, effective deaf education from being in the appropriate setting with qualified teachers.
Objective(s): Participating in staff development days and staying current on newest educational information. Fully incorporating curriculums and lessons that are specifically designed for deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
Goal 2 To follow the same standards and requirements as the Nevada State Board of Education requires.
Objective(s): Keeping strong ties with district-sponsored charter departments and completing all required reports. Also, attending all available workshops.
Goal 3 To ensure that our young deaf community flourishes and continues their education through college.
Objective(s): Providing and modeling positive deaf and hard of hearing (and even hearing) role models to educate, encourage and inspire students to be productive members of our society.
