Mission Statement
The staff, students, parents and community partners of Wallin Elementary School are committed to an EMPOWERED education. It is our mission to provide a caring, positive and safe learning environment where each child is challenged to achieve commensurate with his/her ability and is provided enriching experiences that foster personal integrity, respect and responsibility.
 
Highlights
All members of the Shirley and Bill Wallin community consistently set high expectations, and demonstrate genuine care for one another, in order to empower students to become life-long learners.
  • Wallin Elementary School was the first and only school in the Clark County School District to open as an Empowerment School.
  • Wallin Elementary extended the school day to six hours and thirty minutes, adding additional time to literacy instruction.
  • Teachers worked in teams of 3-4 to utilize various grouping strategies & resources to meet the individual needs of students.
  • A fully equipped Science Lab with a full-time instructor provided hands-on instruction for all students in grades K-5.
  • Promethean hardware & software was provided in each classroom to allow teachers to integrate technology into every lesson.
  • Teachers provided tutoring both before and after school for students on the cusp of proficiency.
  • Students in grades 1-3 reading below grade level were provided an additional thirty minutes of reading instruction.
  • Three full-day tuition-based kindergarten programs were provided, serving over 75 students.
  • Major units of study were culminated with field trips in grades 3-5 throughout the city, state and/or country.
 
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Students will show increased achievement in comprehending, interpreting & evaluating literature and informational text.

Objective(s):
Wallin Elementary School opened for the 2010-2011 school year. During our first year, seventy percent of third, fourth and fifth grade students at Wallin Elementary will meet or exceed reading standards as measured by the 2011 Nevada Criterion Referenced Test.

Goal 2
Students will show increased achievement in Numbers, Data, Spatial Relations and Problem Solving.

Objective(s):
Wallin Elementary School opened for the 2010-2011 school year. During our first year, seventy percent of third, fourth and fifth grade students at Wallin Elementary will meet or exceed math standards as measured by the 2011 Nevada Criterion Referenced Test.
