Highlights
"Six school sites and the LCSD demonstrated “Adequate Yearly Progress” for the 2009-2010 school years. Austin High School received high achieving, and the Battle Mountain Junior High was on the watch list for FRL Math. The students in the Lander County School District continue to achieve goals and reach high expectations because of the outstanding dedication and involvement of our administrators, teachers, and support staff. The continuation of our Career and Technical Education Programs which include nursing, and construction trades have provided additional job training opportunities to our students. Our students, parents, teachers, and principals are focused on essential academic standards and striving to attain mastery of the State Standards. All schools and the district have updated improvement plans that focus on the goals to maintain our momentum for continued student success. "The school district has established comprehensive diagnostic testing protocols using MAP testing, which measures students’ growth for grades K-12 and Dibbles’ testing for K-3, which regularly monitors the development of early literacy and early reading skill. State based examinations are also used to allow our staff to track and provide interventions for each student. These instruments give our educational instruction teams and parents precise information about each child’s achievement level in various basic skills. “Response to Intervention” (RTI/IC) is being implemented to enhance teachers’ skills in and application of best practices of instructional assessment and delivery. Our IC Cohorts are providing the training necessary to develop school-wide norms of collaboration and problem solving and utilize data for classroom and school decisions. PLC and Collaboration are the most effective tools in our arsenal to create a learning environment that is conducive to student achievement. Our PLC is provides the opportunity to meet in a collaborative effort every-other week.
