During the 2009-2010 school year, Humboldt County School District had Denio Elementary school designated as a “High Achieving” school with the vast majority of its remaining schools having met the AYP requirements of NCLB. Building on a foundation of previously implemented programs, MAPS testing is being utilized in all 1st-10th grade classrooms and also with many Kindergarten students. The district continues to work on continuing implementation programs in support of student academic growth, including: PLCs, Data Teams, differentiated instruction, Common Formative Assessments and creating a clearly articulated K-12 curriculum with the introduction of the Common Core State Standards. The development of a District Leadership Team continues to bring together 40+ teachers on a monthly basis from all sites. This collective insight and direction solidifies and guides the implementation of District and School Improvement goals. This work has allowed the district to move beyond CRT’s as the only driving data used to inform instruction. HCSD also has made strides in replacing antiquated computer systems throughout the district with major infrastructure upgrades being sought out for upcoming years. HCSD continues to use Class-size reduction funds to maintain appropriate student to teacher ratios district wide. Full day Kindergarten funds are utilized at the Title 1 schools to provide instruction times that match students in grades 1-8. A pre-K program at Grass Valley Elementary school is also funded with grant money from the state. |
