Increased rigor of Reading Achievement Standards for 2011

The revised achievement standards and the consequent revised assessments are reflective of increased national, state, district and educator expectations for Nevada students. Nevada students must be prepared to take their place in a competitive and global economy.  To that end, Nevada has made college and career readiness a goal for all Nevada students. In 2010 Nevada adopted the following definition of college readiness as an amendment to Nevada Administrative Code 389: “College readiness” means a demonstrated proficiency of a high school graduate to participate and succeed in an academic program leading to the completion of a 2-year or 4-year degree program. (NAC 2010).  Further refinement of the definitions for college and career readiness will be needed as Nevada moves toward an aligned education system of support.
