Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy - Curriculum Details

The Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy (AACPA) offers college preparation for students in grades kindergarten – 12th grade, with an emphasis on standards-based instruction and data-driven decision making. AACPA uses a database management system (IDMS) and a Balanced Scorecard progress monitoring report to better utilize student achievement data and to help administrators and staff make more informed instructional decisions. Along with student test results, teachers use student work samples and classroom observations to focus instruction on the multitude of learning needs present in their classrooms. The differentiated instruction that occurs as a result of this data-driven approach allows students to make greater academic improvements in a shorter amount of time. It also allows teachers to evaluate which instructional techniques are ineffective and should be discarded, and which successful strategies can be adjusted for even greater gains. In an effort to further improve AACPA’s data-driven decision making approach, tri-annual state-standards based assessments have been implemented across the school (K-12) and a monthly assessment (DIBELS) consisting of a set of procedures and measures for accessing the acquisition of early literacy skills is administered to students in kindergarten – 5th grade. The 8-hour AACPA school day allows students to receive instruction in core classes consisting of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, as well as, classes in technology, studio art, music, Spanish, and physical education. Students are encouraged to stay after school and participate in either tutoring or homework assistance programs that are available to students in kindergarten – 12th grade. Involvement in community affairs and cultural activities is also another vital component of the AACPA curriculum. AACPA students must be given the opportunity to gain the academic and social skills needed if they are going to be competitive in an ever increasing global environment.
