Las Vegas Charter School of the Deaf - Curriculum Details

A well-structured, balanced framework of reading & writing activities is provided across all levels of development, including establishing conditions for both ways in which students learn literacy, acquisition and with instruction. The framework suggested here satisfies that criteria by representing a model of language and the learning of literacy based on the following conditions: immersion, demonstration, expectation, responsibility, approximation, use and feedback. It includes the following activities: reading & writing aloud, shared reading & writing, guided reading & writing, and independent reading & writing. Envision Math curriculum provides daily problem-based interactive math learning followed by visual learning strategies that deepen conceptual understanding by making meaningful connections for students and delivering strong, sequential visual/verbal connections through the Visual Learning Bridge in every lesson. This course includes conceptual understanding, problem solving, understanding by design, meeting individual needs, and program organization. Scott Foresman Science curriculum introduces students to the joy of learning with fun, engaging science activities that start them on their way toward success in learning. It uses the scientific method: asking a question, making a hypothesis, planning a fair test, doing the test, collecting & recording data and providing the conclusion. It provides students with inquiry-rich content through activities, cross-curricular connections that link reading & science skills in every chapter, and hundreds of leveled readers for differentiated instruction & strategies. Houghton Mifflin Social Studies curriculum encourages students to explore and expand their knowledge of the world around them. This course includes extended lessons, skill lessons, and visual learning. It enables students to experience success with fascinating non-fiction selections that support content-area instruction. Reading Milestones curriculum is the most popular reading program of its kind. It is especially effective for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. It is also widely used for students with language delays and those with special language & reading needs, including individuals learning English as a second language. This successful alternative, language-controlled program is designed to take readers to approximately a fifth-grade reading level.
