Washoe County School District - Curriculum Details

It is the mission of the Washoe County School District to create an education system where all students achieve academic success, develop personal and civic responsibility, and achieve career and college readiness for the 21st century.

For more information on the recently adopted Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts and Math visit the National PTA website:  http://www.pta.org/4446.htm or the Common Core State Standards website:  http://www.corestandards.org/

To accomplish that mission, the District uses the Nevada State Academic Standards, as the basis for the District’s classroom instruction.  Student mastery of the academic standards is inextricably linked to achievement of the objectives in “Envision WCSD 2015” as detailed elsewhere in this accountability report.  To assess progress in WCSD, the Trustees use performance monitoring and continuous systems improvement as vehicles for ensuring student success.   Nevada’s academic standards can be located online at http://www.washoe.k12.nv.us/district/wcsd-core-curriculum-standards or at the Nevada Department of Education site http://www.doe.nv.gov/Standards.html

More information is available on the District site which includes the most recent edition of the Parents Newsletter, how parents can help their children reach the standards, an explanation of the No Child Left Behind Act, how to use Infinite Campus, how to register for school, and how parents can help their students prepare for college in Nevada.  Visit http://www.washoe.k12.nv.us/parents/ for more information.
